Coaching, Floral Design and Farming. A quick 2024 recap

Coaching, Floral Design and Farming. A quick 2024 recap

2024 has been another whirlwind year of change, challenge, growth and a few setbacks and tears along the way.

Back to my Roots

After two years of full time coaching, I realized I was missing something crucial in my life - floral design. The daily burst of creativity, the smiles on people's faces as they received their bouquets, and the therapeutic power of flowers were calling me back.   Apparently you can take the girl out of floral design, but after 20 years, you can't take floral design out of the girl. So, I dusted off my floral tools and re-opened Sarah Larkin Design. Taking two years off and having space to operate without floral design as a constant presence and art form was eye opening.  I needed that time to learn about myself and to discover how I wanted to go forward in my life.  I couldn't have learned some crucial things without that time and space away.

Unexpected Detour

Just when I thought re-opening this business was the big change for the year, fate had other plans. In February, a friend introduced me to The Beginner Farmer Training Program at The Center for Land Based Learning. Before I knew it, I was knee-deep in compost, driving a tractor, learning the ins and outs of farming and drafting a business plan. All those years of hobby gardening, learning about health and our food system, overcoming the fear of public speaking and being in the floral design industry were starting to come together to form the bigger picture for me.

This year was definitely a rollercoaster ride I never saw coming. From coaching to floral design to farming, being a mom and an active volunteer in the community, it was a loaded year. But hey, that's what keeps things interesting, right? Embracing the unexpected, trying new things, and growing in ways I never imagined. That's what I teach my coaching clients, and that's what I pursue in my life.

What's Next?

2025 brings with it a lease of 1/4 acre of land where I will be dipping my toes into the world of farming and taking on my first employees.  For me, it feels like an aggressive growth plan, but it's one that has been years in the making. So, while it may feel big and I'm appropriately scared, it also feels right. The puzzle pieces are coming together, and hopefully the picture will reveal something even more beautiful than I can imagine as I start this leg of my journey.

Thank you to all my customers, family and friends for your continued support! Lots of beautiful flowers coming your way in 2025!

Much love to you,
